![]() Each car has six upgrade slots available: Engine Head, Engine Block, ECU, Turbo, Exhaust, and Gearbox. In this game, those upgrades take the form of Speed Cards. Just like other NFS games, you can upgrade your cars. ![]() By the end of the game, you'll have upgraded cars for each classification. You're going to need to purchase certain specific cars for some achievements within the walkthrough, but largely you're free to drive whatever you like. These progression lines also have a classification to them from the list above, meaning you can only use a Drift car in the Drift races for the Drift storyline, etc. The game splits the storyline and races up into questlines, where you need to progress through a series of races to challenge and defeat a boss. Payback has a large variety of cars available to be driven, however the game has a classification system involved with cars that only allows them to be driven in certain races.
